Most all cultures celebrate the new year - it might not be the exact same date, but everybody celebrates one year passing and a new one coming in. Most cultures have some sort of celebration of the harvest or food. Most have a celebration of some sort during the bad season to break the monotony of being indoors for a long time. Most cultures celebrate birthdays somehow.
