A live Christmas tree should last 3-4 weeks if kept watered. Cut off an inch or so of the trunk, soak it in a bucket of water for several hours before decorating the tree. Your tree stand should hold water and you should refresh it daily. My parents used to put sugar into the water, but not sure what the reasoning was for that.
