How To Not Look Like A Complete Beginner Skater

We take it on the streets. Skateboard Pro and Beginner

The month of street culture continues in full swing at the adidas BASEMOSCOW site in Gorky Park, which means that you have not much time left to confidently stand on the board, master the ramp, take part in the first (or not the first) ) dance jam and rhyme a few lines on the rap battle. Today we went to the skate rink to chat with the rider of the adidas Skateboarding team David Gaziev and ask him the top questions that worry a beginner who wants to get on the board. All the details are in our material.

Who is taught to skate

David Gaziev, rider of the adidas Skateboarding team, coach: Trainings are conducted for people of different backgrounds with different levels of training: for guys who have never been on a skateboard, and for already progressing riders, but with the aim not to teach, but to raise their level. For example, if they have problems with performing some tricks, then we can help with advice.

How the training proceeds

It all depends on the level: when completely newbies skate, then we give certain exercises and they work them out, in the future, if a person already knows some tricks, then he himself skates in free form, but at any time he can ask you to look at his technique or teach him a specific trick.

How to stand on the board yourself

It is best to turn to professionals , now in Moscow this direction is progressing, new skate schools and grounds are opening. There are people who are open to communication and are ready to share their experiences, it is foolish not to use this opportunity.

This is certainly not some kind of trick. This is how the guys in the yard did it, it seemed to them that it was beautiful. It seems to me that this thing doesn't even have a name. But in general, the thought is this: just start skating, just get up on the skate, just push off, just drive over the pieces. And then complicate it, do not invent anything from the very beginning. Your first and foremost goal is to learn the basics.

Where to start learning

There are two directions here. The first is to contact the section or to the trainer, and the second is to learn to skate in the company of like-minded people and friends who are already engaged in skateboarding.

Life hack for beginners

In our skate school we often use video analysis. It's generally cool to film yourself and watch from the sidelines how you perform the trick. If you train alone, you can post the video on the Internet and ask more experienced guys for advice.

If there is no skate school in your city

Ohfive are the Internet, where there is a lot of useful information, videos, tutorials on YouTube. If you wish, you can always start even with this, well, continue too. Skate videos allow you to be inspired and learn.

Mistakes that can be avoided

Basically it is the wrong positioning of the feet on the skateboard, because learning is always just skating. You can't come and start doing tricks right away, first you need to ride, ride and ride again, learn to feel the board. If you skate with the wrong stance, then later on there will be many difficulties in learning tricks.

Start by simply trying to drive onto the ramp (see the gym). Ask a friend or coach to back you up and take your time. Tip: do not put all the weight on your front leg as soon as you enter the spot.

Top choice: how to choose a board

Here I would for sure I advised you to turn to professionals and generally purchase a board in a specialized store. The skateshop will select a board for you according to your requirements. If you just want to ride around the city, then this is one skateboard, if your goal is to do tricks, ride on the ramp, then this is another skateboard.

To move around the city, wheels are mainly used wide, soft and with a large diameter. This is done in order to compensate for uneven road surfaces. For tricks, the wheels on the board are a little smaller and a little harder.

The width of the board, for example, depends on the size of the foot. But again, professionals are already choosing a skate for themselves and sometimes do not take this parameter into account. Boards come in different shapes, different lengths, and different widths. It's the same story with wheels, they come in different stiffness.
