Sport psychology - inside the mind of champion athletes: Martin Hagger at TEDxPerth

Running for the result. What constitutes a championship?

On April 9, another running season opened in Moscow. Almost 6 thousand Muscovites took part in the solemn April race in Luzhniki. Someone ran for the result, but for someone it was a symbolic start in the new year. Rinas Akhmadeev, a member of the Adidas Runners team, completed the 5 km distance fastest.

Today I set myself a goal - to win. I did it well, and I am happy with my result. This is my best track record so far - 14 minutes 23 seconds. Personal record at the stadium - 13 minutes 35 seconds.

For the athlete, this was not the first race this season.

A week ago, he made a start in Sochi, where he also became the winner. Of course, no victory comes without serious preparation.

My training is different depending on the preparation. We maintain a high running volume during the base period. This includes special running exercises. For example, my running volume in the base period is about 170 km per week. In fact, it is not much. People who are preparing for a marathon run 200 km a week. In addition to simple running, segments from 100 meters to 2-3 kilometers, jumping exercises are included.

The April race became a kind of training before the main running event of the country - the Moscow Marathon, which will take place on September 24.

Distance 5 km - comfortable, not so exhausting. Of course, everyone needs to find their own comfortable distance, for some it can be 800 meters or 1.5 kilometers. But no fundamentally different preparation is required in order to run 5 kilometers. The most difficult thing here is to keep the pace. You initially plan for what result you will run, and then you are counting on your strength.

A picturesque running track passed around the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, along the Luzhnetskaya Embankment, so the participants were able to enjoy views of Moscow City, Vorobyovskaya Embankment and the main building of Moscow State University.

Training is a must run on different surfaces. There are huge differences between the start on the highway and the cross-country race, which is why it is imperative to alternate surfaces during serious training and when preparing for a run.

For those wishing to become part of the movement this season, there is still the opportunity to start training and have time to take part in the next start - the Moscow Half Marathon, which will take place on 21st May.
