At 90, American Phyllis Seuss made a parachute jump, at 80 she took up yoga, at 75 - aerial acrobatics. Now she is 97, and she is passionately dancing Argentine tango, jumping rope, easily sits on the splits, holds the bar and does not think that she is doing something incredible.

My life was like a dream. And then I woke up

Phyllis Seuss was a ballerina in her youth, then she retrained as a dancer on Broadway, and at 50 she became a business woman. Life went on as usual. Everything changed dramatically when the woman turned 75 years old. She took up aerial acrobatics! I just told myself that I could, and I did. Seuss did the hardest things on the trapeze. At the same time, she had never done anything like this before, although dancing and ballet presuppose excellent physical shape. But until a certain age.

The typical image of a 75-year-old woman hardly fits with aerial acrobatics. But the Phyllis liked to swim against the tide. She decided to completely change her lifestyle.

What is it: regular exercise or good genes?

Dancing, fitness and yoga. What else did the grandmother get carried away?

The incredible woman admitted that she did not even think about doing yoga, jumping rope, Argentine tango, but all these hobbies found her themselves.

I needed a whole life, so that I like myself the way I am now. Yoga, tango and jumping rope found me by accident, when life was already going to decline. But no, it was dawn! Now I'm just doing what my body and soul require, ”the brave woman explained.

It's hard to call a person a grandmother who, at 97 (!) years old, sits on a split, does a headstand, and performs tango with such passion, as if she were 18.

Grandchildren rarely see their grandmother because of her travels to competitions.

Six minutes on the rope

Every day Phyllis Seuss starts with a stretch: she sits on a split right in bed.
Then jumping rope begins with an increase in pace. This exercise lasts six minutes - amazing cardio workout, cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

And then 45-60 minutes of yoga. According to Seuss, a friend brought her to class (I wonder how old she was?), And what Phyllis saw she didn't like at all. But the teacher in just five minutes convinced her to just try, after which she can no longer imagine herself without yoga.

In a woman's diet, there are no restrictions. Phyllis eats often, but in small portions. And her weight never exceeded 50 kg, and for the last couple of decades - 45 kg.

And then tango, which she did at 85! You need to be ideally prepared for this dance physically, but who can doubt Seuss's form?

Book of Tips

In early 2020, Phyllis Seuss finished the book, which she began for five years back.
Originally it was called Twenty Tips on How to Change Your Life. As a result, there were 22 tips, and the book was published with the title My journey to health: activity.

And these tips can be followed now, without waiting for the 75th anniversary. Here are some of them.

  • First and most importantly: you should never tell yourself that you do not have the strength or time for this, this is an empty excuse.
  • Second : It's never too late to change your life.
  • Third : there should be a certain routine in life, it disciplines.
  • Fourth : don't sit still - move, listen, learn, do something useful, but don't sit.
  • Fifth : remember that our body has unique abilities, and if you take care of it, it will allow you to live long and bright.
