Teaching Children To Snowboard: Part 1

Instructions for parents: how to put your child on a snowboard?

Putting a child on a snowboard without a professional instructor is not so easy. But what if your goal is more global and you want to instill in your toddler a love of snowboarding culture, and not just teach them to pick up speed while going down a slope?

Together with DC Shoes Artyom Sheldovitsky your child's steps are correct and special. Remarkably, you don't have to wait for the snow to fall.

Step 1. Start small

Artem Sheldr Sheldovitsky: The most important thing is equipment ... We started with a skateboard, no wheels. They just taught the child to climb on it. The board lay in the room, the daughter played with it, crawled on it, got up. In addition, Stefania saw photographs of me skating and tried to imitate. Fear not, as the board is smooth and without wheels, it is completely safe. The child stands on it and just gets used to it.

Step 2. Move to the next level: choose a board

The next step is snowboard. There are small rigged snowboards with ropes to drag the child with you. One-year-old boots, bindings, and a board can be purchased from the store or ordered online. There are not so many boards for kids, only one company makes small snowboards. Riding time on the mountain with a child: from two to ten minutes, no more.

Step 3. Choose equipment

First of all, you need clothes that do not get wet, in which the child will not freeze and it will be comfortable for him to move. Any jumpsuit will do. At the first stage, you do not let go of the child, so a helmet and mask are not needed. The helmet will come in handy at the next stage, at the age of two, but not as an element of protection, but so that the child gets used to it and in the future it would be comfortable for him to ride in it.

Step 4. Skiing without snow

You can ride anywhere. For the first time, even a mountain is not needed. Perhaps snow is not needed, because my child still loves to ride at home more. Any carpet is suitable for this. The daughter periodically takes the board, pulls it out, gets up on it herself. You just need to fasten the fasteners and roll it around the house by the string (riglet). When we arrived on the mountain, we rode by the hands and by this rope, not on an inclined, but on a straight surface.

Step 5. Instilling love

Classes should be held in a game format. The child should not perceive them as sports training; in no case should they be forced to do it. For example, I am not trying to educate a professional snowboarder. The most important thing is to instill love. After all, if you put a child on the board, this does not mean that he will, like you, skate all his life. The child may love something else: drawing, running, skiing.

Step 6. Give a choice

Don't be limited to snowboarding. I recommend combining it with skiing. First, they are easier to master. Secondly, there is an equilateral development in skiing. In addition, skis for children appeared much earlier than snowboards. Therefore, there are many more instructors in teaching this sport. If you want to make your child a pro, then finding a qualified ski instructor for children will definitely be easier.

Step 7. Distribute the load

Children begin to skate consciously at the age of three. You need to start mastering the board on children's and educational slopes or mini snow parks ... Since the movement in a snowboard is carried out sideways, the load is unevenly distributed, which may not have a very good effect on the development of the child. To avoid this, you need to teach the child from the very beginning to ride in two racks at the same time, this will contribute to all-round and even development.

Step 8. Do not be afraid of difficulties

The child can be capricious. Saying he doesn't like it. In no case should you force. If he doesn't want to skate today, then he doesn't want to. You just need to put down the board, try to negotiate with him or set an example.

Step 9. Find a company

We noticed that it is much more interesting for children to ride in a company than alone or with their parents. They look at each other, and they are interested. In Moscow, roller coasters are often used for year-round small rigging-snowboard parks on artificial turf. In the States, this lesson was introduced into the school curriculum as an additional one.

Step 10. Show an example

My daughter likes to flip through snow videos on her phone. There are photographs and posters hanging at home. The wife often plays the video herself. I am leaving, and Stefania asks: where is dad? Dad is riding.
