How to longboard first 10 basic steps

Getting on a longboard: first 5 steps

Summer is not over yet, which means that you have every chance to have time to learn something new. For example, join the free training sessions from Quiksilver in Gorky Park and master the longboard. During training, riders are divided into groups: beginners learn to stand on the board, and those who have been riding for a long time, pump their skills, hone their style and master freestyle and downhill. A special group from five years old is open for young longboarders.

For those who will not be able to join the classes next Thursday, but really want to start skating today, together with the coach of the Quiksilver Go Longboard Olya Ugryumova , we have compiled a list of five simple steps.

1. If you decide to stand on the board seriously and for a long time, and most importantly start mastering the longboard on your own, you need a helmet. Any skiing should begin with the fact that a person should choose a helmet for himself. Moreover, it will be useful to you both in summer and winter. All protection worn on you should sit so that it does not dangle during movement.

We measure the helmet in the store as follows: put it on, shake your head from side to side - it does not should swing.

2. Moving on to board selection. We choose the board that you like best, that suits you in height and weight. By height, by weight, you can pick it up as follows: put your front foot on the board, try to push forward with your toe, and push back with your heel. The board should push freely under you. Otherwise, if it doesn't, it doesn't fit your weight.

3. After you have picked up the board, you should go to a flat area, without a slope, where you can try to stand correctly on the board and keep your balance. The correct stance looks like this: the legs are at a distance from each other shoulder-width apart. The knees must be bent. Conveniently? If so, you can start training.

Haven't had time to buy a board? At the free Quiksilver Go Longboard workouts in Gorky Park, you can take a longboard for a test during your workout. Even if you have your own board, you can find something more suitable for your tests!

4. Then we try to push off. To learn how to push off, the shoulders must be left above the leading leg: leave only the leading foot on the board, turn the shoulders in the direction of travel, look forward in the direction of travel.

5. After that, let's move on to the repulsion itself. Try to push off with your back leg powerfully, from the hip. The movement itself looks like this: we bring the hind leg forward, bend the knee, bring it forward and, starting from the heel, we make a powerful repulsion. Thenwe put our foot on the board and stand in our main stance (we return to the starting position).

Quiksilver Go Longboard classes are held on the Large Mass Field in Gorky Park (next to Café Mercato) every Thursday from 19:00. The landmark is the red Quiksilver bus. Pre-registration is required.
