Alla Shishkina: luck is just an illusion

- Alla, tell me, what does the word sport mean to you?

- For me, sport is a kind of religion, if I may say so. And for many people who are somehow connected with him. Moreover, I do not even take professionals as an example, sport is a religion for all people who monitor their health and lead an active lifestyle. It is impossible to play sports and not notice how it gradually becomes your life, step by step.

- Do you have a motto or favorite phrase that would reflect your attitude to life?

—Luck is just illusion. At first glance, seemingly successful, there is a lot of work and a lot of work. Nobody knows how much effort is actually behind some of your achievements: the first line of the pedestal or a breakthrough in science, art, and even in everyday life.

- Why synchronized swimming?

- I have chosen and it is surprising that a child at the age of 7 chose. I really liked it, I saw the competition on TV and decided that dancing in the water is mine.

- Since then you have never changed your mind?

- There were some difficult moments, everyone has them in life. But such that she left and did not return ... no, this definitely did not happen.

- How do you usually train?

- A training session usually lasts about 10 hours if we are talking about the national team. Usually it is 2 hours on land and 8 hours on the water. It is very difficult physically. Several sports are essentially collected in one: swimming, and acrobatics, and jumping, and everything that is possible. If we talk about the off-season, then usually during a break between competitions I don't go to big water for a month - a pool, a river, the sea - then I start to swim a little.

- Don't you swim on vacation either? b>

- Basically I go to freshen up. In general, I go to the sea, because I like it when it's warm. I really like to spend my holidays actively: to take a walk somewhere, to see something interesting. The sea is always pleasant and useful for the recovery of the body, such is the rest of the soul and body, without high achievements in the water (laughs).

- How long does the off-season last and when does the season begin?

—It all depends on when the last competition ended: for example, the World Cup usually ends in August. During this period, we have about a couple of months of rest and then from October the active phase of training begins again. First, they pass in such a recovery mode, then from time to time we increase everything and increase the pace.

- What is the most difficult thing in working in water?

- Everything ... In principle, working in water is not easy. It's so difficult that every wave of the hand is sometimes difficult. And of course, if we are talking about synchronized swimming, then this is holding your breath, because most of the performance and trenWe spend the training under water. If you hold your breath for a long time, then every movement in the water becomes harder and harder to execute.

- How to develop such a breathing apparatus as in synchronized swimmers?

- I don't know, honestly, we just swim a lot under water, thereby developing our lungs. Since almost everyone in the national team has been practicing since early childhood, spent a lot of time in the pool, the volume of the lungs formed quite large.

- What does training on land include?

- This is both GPP and stretching. Of course, we also do our special exercises: headstand, splits, and so on. We rehearse our program to the music, show the movements of the legs with our hands.

- How do synchronized swimmers hear music underwater?

- There are speakers underwater and the music is heard even better than you (smiles). In fact, the situations are of course different. If anything, we are always ready to continue showing the composition on a conditional account. If it happens that the music is interrupted, then one of the team begins to count loudly, and everyone else continues to perform the elements in a given rhythm. All our music is designed for eights, sixes, threes. And usually we agree in advance who, in case of force majeure, will start counting aloud.

- At what age should a child be sent to synchronized swimming?

- I came to synchronized swimming at the age of seven, and then it was considered absolutely normal. Now it is, of course, already very late. Girls, and boys already, are sent to the section from 4-5 years old. Plus, infant swimming is now very common. So with a strong desire of the parents, the child can only be born, immediately into the water and so not get out of it.

- What helps you not to turn on the way to the goal? What motivates?

- Athletes usually go to some kind of awards throughout their careers. With this it is simple here: you clearly understand the structure and realize for what stage a new level awaits you. I've always had a goal in my life. Our entire synchronized swimming team has been in the first place for many years - this has become for me the main motivator and the biggest support.

- What competitions have become significant for you?

- The very first World Championship in Rome, because it was one of the major and decisive starts for me. After all, if you got to such a major event, got in from the national team and was able to help bring a medal to the country's treasury, then you already begin to gain confidence that you really got a foothold in the composition. And, of course, the Olympic Games in Rio and London. It was the ultimate dream of mine.

- How hard is it for you to work in a team?

- I am a team player. It's easy for me in a team, perhaps this is due to the fact that I have been training in a team since childhood. It is in synchronized swimming that I really likeI mean that we have a very developed continuity of generations. The younger ones always listen to the elders, and the older ones are always ready to help with practical advice or something else. Respect is the basis of working in a large team.

- Are there any other sports you enjoy besides synchronized swimming?

- This year tried snowboarding. I'm a bit of a coward in terms of extreme sports, because, of course, I'm afraid of falling, getting accidentally injured or, worse, breaking something - I can't do that. Therefore, I got up on the board very carefully. But in general, I'm open to everything new!

- What advice can you give to a person who does not dare to start playing sports / running in the morning / going to the gym?

- You need to overcome your laziness. I know from myself that this is the most difficult thing, especially if you have never done this and all your thoughts are hovering somewhere in the clouds. The first step is always the most difficult and most important decision. To do something and achieve something in this, you need to understand why and why you are doing it. Sport is not just that.
